Spring! Time Solar Cook!

Updated: Jun 25, 2023

It has been a tough winter for most of us .One image from storm devastation sticks in my mind: Damaged homes with the caption "no power, unsafe water" Yet the sky is blue!

This can happen to any of us, anytime.

If you have not used your cooker this winter, now is the time to get it out and start cooking.

On March 11 and 12, with absolutely no sunlight, I was able achieve 160º F in an empty pan. There was light rain and solid clouds throughout the day. There were no shadows, I turned the cooker to the brightest part of the sky and that did the trick. Not enough power to cook but easily enough to warm some food. UV rays make it through the clouds.

Solar cooking takes practice. Learn it before you need it.
